Golden Lion Lake is located at Fudingjin, upstream of the Love River, in the northeastern part of Kaohsiung City. It was originally named "Dabei" (Big Pond). As it is adjacent to Lion Head Mountain, it was named Golden Lion Lake. Its water source comes from the Dingjin Canal, located on the east side of the highway, and the lake water drains into Kaohsiung Harbor via the Benguan Drainage Ditch and the Love River. Lion Mountain was originally called "Hutou Shanzi" (Little Tiger Head Mountain). According to geomancers, Hutou Mountain has a spiritual spot known as the "Sleeping Lion Acupoint," and its soil is yellow earth, hence the "golden" reference. Lion Mountain is lush with trees, and ancient banyan trees have intertwined roots. There are pavilions built on the mountain. Climbing the steps to the summit, one can also overlook Banping Mountain, Shoushan (Longevity Mountain), and the green plains of the Gaoping Plain. Here, one can rest in the shade, gaze at the lake and mountain scenery, and take in all the beautiful views. Golden Lion Lake Park is the designated site for Park No. 6 in the current Wanzinei urban development plan. It covers an area of 25 hectares, of which the water area is approximately 11 hectares. The land area, including the peninsula in the lake and its northern and southern surrounding areas, is about 14 hectares. Efforts are currently underway to enhance planting and greening to preserve the local landscape of mountains and water, turning it into a green forest for Kaohsiung City.
