As early as 1950 (Republic of China Year 39), numerous snack stalls began to gather on the vacant land near Dagangpu in what is now Kaohsiung City's Xinxing District. Gradually, more and more appeared, and over time, it became known as the 'Dagangpu Night Market,' famous for its snacks. It later expanded and transformed into the current Liuhe Night Market. The Liuhe Night Market is not far from Kaohsiung Main Station; you can reach it by walking straight along Zhongshan Road for about ten minutes and then turning right onto Liuhe Road. During the day, this is a straight main road, but at night, it transforms into a bustling market filled with people. The Liuhe Night Market, renowned for its diverse array of snacks, features a particularly distinctive sight: numerous steak and seafood restaurants, over 10 of them, big and small. Their main selling points are affordable, family-style steak sets. The two rows of stalls offer everything imaginable, from mountain produce, seafood, and local specialties to cold drinks and desserts. The sheer variety is dazzling, and the rich flavors of the snacks are famous throughout Taiwan. Kaohsiung's signature papaya milk and salt-steamed shrimp are also delicious treats you shouldn't miss. Kaohsiung City's Liuhe Night Market has successfully cultivated an image as an international-class gourmet tourist night market, creating a new leisure and consumption destination. In terms of hardware planning, efforts have focused on integrating Kaohsiung's unique port city culture, effectively enhancing vendors' and consumers' sense of identification with the Liuhe Night Market. On the software side, the market has fostered cohesiveness and initiative among all vendors and the management committee, actively promoting uniform attire and stall signs, thereby implementing the service industry's business philosophy of 'enhancing customer satisfaction' and paving a successful path. In recent years, the city government has also actively organized events such as the 'Traditional Market YOUNG Up' and 'Liuhe Food Carnival' series at the internationally renowned Liuhe Night Market to expand business opportunities in the commercial district.
