Southwest Coast National Scenic Area

The Southwest Coast National Scenic Area Administration, which is the 12th national scenic area under the jurisdiction of the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, was officially established on December 24, 2003. Its administration office is located in Beimen District, Tainan City, at the former office premises of the Taiyen Company's Beimen Salt Field. The Southwest Coast National Scenic Area is characterized by its vast sandbars, wetlands, lagoons, and other green coastal landscapes, along with the rich ecological resources they nurture. It also boasts thousands of hectares of salt fields and aquaculture ponds, numerous temples and religious cultural sites, and historical relics of early settlement in the Taijiang Inland Sea area. Most notably, its Black-faced Spoonbill Conservation Area attracts hundreds of Black-faced Spoonbills every year. Key attractions include Waisanding Sandbar, Hukou Wetland, Dongshi Fishing Harbor, Beimen Salt Field, Cigu Lagoon, Cigu Salt Mountain, Zengwen River Estuary Black-faced Spoonbill Conservation Area, Luerhmen Mazu Temple, Sicao Dazhong Temple, various forts, and wetlands.
