Taiwan's southwestern coast is a flat sandy shore. Due to exceptionally long hours of sunshine, this long, narrow coastline has formed a unique salt field landscape. Budai Township in Chiayi County is Taiwan's premier salt production area. From March to May each year, with the strongest sunlight and no rain interference, it is the busiest season for the salt fields. Approaching the coast, one can see mounds of pristine white salt piles and smell the strong salty scent carried by the wind.
