Wang Yingxin Art Museum

After fifteen years of preparation, design, and landscaping, the Wang Yingxin Art Museum meticulously planned and established its own sculpture park. With the assistance of the Council for Cultural Affairs (now the Ministry of Culture), it became a 'Local Cultural Center' in 2007 (the 96th year of the Republic of China). On its opening day, numerous dignitaries, figures from the art and cultural world, and the public gathered to extend their congratulations. The continuous stream of visitors created an unprecedented and magnificent scene, marking a significant event for Nantou's local art community. Wang Yingxin's long-cherished wish has been to let sculptures 'grow' in nature, placing them outdoors to break free from the aristocratic display style of art museums, allowing them to converse with sunlight, wind, and rain. To achieve this higher artistic realm, Wang Yingxin spent years diligently searching for a space that resonated more deeply with nature and his creative spirit. Seventeen years ago, seeking a tranquil creative environment and a place to adorn his garden with sculptures, he embarked on a quest along the 'Art Boulevard' for a serene, mountainous, and watery plot, undisturbed for his creations. Over half a year of earnest searching, he inspected more than a hundred hillside plots. Finally, he discovered a hillside property of over 1.2 hectares opposite Jioujioufeng Mountain in Shuangdong, Caotun Township, Nantou County, where camphor trees and sculptures are intertwined. In his leisure time, Wang Yingxin also serves as a guide, explaining the profound meanings of his works to fellow art lovers, enabling the public to enjoy phytoncides in nature and engage in a direct dialogue with the sculptures. Wang Yingxin has been dedicated to sculpture for over thirty years, amassing a considerable body of work. The museum is nestled on a hillside beside the Zhongtan Highway, part of Taiwan's Art Boulevard, hidden amidst lush green forests. Upon entering the park, along the flagstone paths, one finds camphor trees, fruit trees, and sculptures of various sizes. Currently, the park showcases over 120 large and medium-sized sculptural works, including a figure inspired by British sculpture master Henry Moore (5 meters high), 'Summer' (4.2 meters high), 'The Scream' (4.2 meters high), 'Compassion' (3.3 meters high), 'Eternity' – a pair of nude elders over eighty years old (2 meters high), a statue of former President Lee Teng-hui playing golf (2.2 meters high), and a statue of Yang San-lang (2.2 meters high). Additionally, over thirty life-sized pieces contribute to the rich artistic atmosphere.
