Xinyi Township is known as the 'hometown of plums' and is Taiwan's largest green plum production area. Every year, from late winter/early spring until the Qingming Festival when plum fruits ripen, viewing and picking plums become the most picturesque activities in this plum-producing region. Fenggueidou, Niuchoukeng, and Wusonglun are well-known plum blossom viewing spots. A visit to the plum orchards offers a spectacle of a sea of blossoms blooming successively across the mountainsides at different altitudes. The distant view of Yushan's (Jade Mountain's) snow-capped peak adds infinite beauty to the scenery. The plum trees in Fenggueidou are distinctive for their rough, dark bark, gnarled branches, and robust, upright posture, exuding a unique aesthetic. Most of these plum trees are old, around 30 years of age, with the 'Old Plum King' near Zihciang Elementary School being particularly remarkable, boasting a venerable age of 70 years, sturdy and vibrant despite its age. During the plum blossom season, the Xinyi Township Farmers' Association utilizes the natural resources, rich agricultural specialties, and Indigenous cultural characteristics of Xinyi Township to host a series of "Plum Blossom Seeking" activities. These include the Yushan High-Altitude Winter Premium Tea Competition and the Xinyi Township Premium Grape Competition award ceremony and sales exhibition. This period is the optimal time for exploration and discovery. Award-winning farmers use the stalls provided by the Farmers' Association to sell their prize-winning competition teas and premium grapes on-site. Due to the exceptional quality and limited supply of these products, they are often quickly sold out at the exhibition. Therefore, the day of the award ceremony and sales exhibition is the best and most concentrated opportunity for visitors to taste Yushan's high-altitude premium tea and premium grapes, and visitors are highly encouraged to attend.
