Hehuan Mountain National Forest Recreation Area

Hehuan Mountain, known as the "Snow Country," is located at the border of Hualien County and Nantou County, serving as the watershed for Taiwan's major rivers: the Dajia River, Zhuoshui River, and Liwu River. The Hehuan Mountain Range comprises seven peaks: Main Peak (3,416 meters), East Peak (3,421 meters), North Peak (3,422 meters), West Peak (3,144 meters), Shimen Mountain (3,236 meters), Hehuan Jianshan (3,217 meters), and Shimen North Peak (3,278 meters). (The first five are listed among Taiwan's 100 Peaks). Provincial Highway 14A (the section from Dayuling to Wuling) is the highest altitude road in Asia. There are two entrances: Dayuling and Wushe. Entering from Dayuling allows visitors to appreciate the scenery of the Central Cross-Island Highway. If entering from Wushe, one route leads directly to Lushan, while another passes through Cingjing Farm, Meifeng, Cuifeng, Yuanfeng, Kunyang, and Wuling, eventually reaching Dayuling. Along the way, visitors can enjoy unique high-mountain landscapes such as high-mountain hemlocks, white withered trees, and vast arrow bamboo grasslands.
