Wuling National Forest Recreation Area

Wuling Forest Recreation Area is located on the Central Cross-Island Highway's Yilan Branch Line, at the border of Heping District, Taichung City, and Datong Township, Yilan County, at an elevation of 1,800 meters. It is a plateau situated within a high mountain longitudinal valley. Wuling Farm has a history of over twenty years since its development, and its grounds encompass Mount Xue, Mount Dabajian, and Mount Taoshan. Mount Kalayeshan was incorporated into Shei-Pa National Park on July 1, 1992, becoming Taiwan's fifth national park. It spans Hsinchu, Miaoli, and Taichung counties/cities, covering an area of 76,850 hectares. It features high mountains, river valleys, plateaus, and waterfalls, forming a contiguous scenic area with Wuling Farm. It is a challenging route for mountaineers and also suitable for families to hike, making it the best attraction on the Central Cross-Island Highway branch line. In spring, peach and plum blossoms create a sea of flowers. In summer, visitors can savor high-mountain fruits and vegetables. Autumn sees red leaves drifting and pine and cypress trees lush and green. In winter, the mountain peaks are adorned with crystal-like, jade-white snow. Each season offers unique scenery. Among its features, Taoshan Waterfall is one of Taiwan's famous high-mountain waterfalls. Along the way, visitors can admire Mount Taoshan, Mount Xue, and other peaks, and overlook the entire panoramic view of Wuling. The Qijiawan Stream catchment area is currently designated as the 'Taiwan Salmon Wild Animal Protection Area,' which is Taiwan's largest wildlife protection area.
