Lileng Tribe

The Lileng Tribe is located in Bo'ai Village, Heping District, Taichung City, at the 26-kilometer mark of the Central Cross-Island Highway, 10 kilometers away from Guguan. Turning right at the new Central Cross-Island Highway landmark, the large red Lileng Bridge, you will find the Lileng Tribe at the confluence of the Dajia River and the Lileng River. Due to its terrain, backed by mountains and facing the river, the climate is comfortable and pleasant. The tribe has no more than 500 residents, who have been farmers for generations. Their main agricultural products are mandarins, oranges, peaches, pears, and plums, which are harvested in succession throughout the seasons. Their primary religion is the True Jesus Church. Lileng boasts rich tourism resources, including attractions such as the Qichongtian Waterfall (composed of seven waterfalls of different forms), the Four Warriors Five-Needle Pine Trail, Lileng Forest Road, Baxianshan National Forest Recreation Area, Guguan Recreation Area, and Shanshan National Scenic Area. These areas are connected by the Central Cross-Island Highway as the main route, linking various scenic spots. Traffic on the road segments below Guguan is very smooth. As of Minguo 96 (2007 A.D.), the road section from Guguan to Lishan remains closed due to earthquake damage. The Lileng area was developed relatively late, still preserving its original natural ecology. The forest landscape and the variety of flora and fauna are extremely rich. Various native plants such as two-needle pines, five-needle pines, incense machilus, litsea acuminata, and mountain ephedra can be seen everywhere. Insects, birds, frogs, butterflies, and countless other species abound, making it a paradise for many ecological observers and photographers. The Lileng River maintains a stable flow year-round, and parts of its banks are close to the road, often attracting many visitors for water activities in the summer. In recent years, hot springs have been discovered along the Lileng River, and some operators are planning to develop hot spring resorts along the river. In conjunction with the Heping District Office's application for the establishment of the Songhe Lileng Recreational Agricultural Area, the potential for future tourism and recreation is immense.
