Stepping into Tunghai University, nestled on the slopes of Dadu Mountain in Taichung, one is immediately greeted by the graceful, vibrant phoenix trees lining both sides of 約農路 (Yuannong Road). Along the straight Wenli Boulevard, ancient banyan trees form an umbrella-like canopy, creating a verdant tunnel. Low-set streetlights emit a soft glow, adding to the charm after dark. Situated on the open lawn between the activity center and the academic area is the university's most renowned landmark, the "Luce Memorial Chapel," designed by the famous architect I. M. Pei. This chapel features a sail-like roof with curved lines, covered with glazed tiles, and can be considered the spiritual symbol of the university. Tunghai Ranch is located on the southwest slope of the campus, covering an area of 50 hectares, cultivated independently by students of the College of Agriculture. Nearby is Tunghai Lake, with Dongmei Pavilion on its bank, built in memory of the great philosopher Mr. Fang Dongmei. The campus is densely forested, featuring streams, shrubs, grasslands, and an artificial lake, making it a popular spot for birdwatching.
