Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area - Nanzhuang Visitor Center

Central Taiwan boasts a pleasant climate, beautiful scenery, and abundant natural, cultural, and industrial resources, holding significant potential for tourism development. For this reason, the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications merged the three scenic areas of Lion's Head Mountain, Lishan, and Baguashan into the "Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area." Its administrative area covers 18 townships/cities/districts across 5 counties/cities: Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou, with a total area of approximately 77,521 hectares. The Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area Administration was established in March 2001 (Year 90 of the Republic) to be solely responsible for tourism-related operations within its jurisdiction. This area is rich in diverse topography and landforms, including high mountains, lakes, canyons, hills, and waterfalls, creating stunning and unique landscapes. Coupled with abundant flora and fauna, such as birds, fish, and insects, as well as seasonal flowers and mountain forest scenery, the area thrives with life. Culturally, the area integrates diverse ethnic groups such as Hakka, Southern Min, Saisiyat, and Atayal, showcasing a multifaceted and inclusive cultural landscape. The traditional customs and artifacts left behind are precious assets urgently awaiting preservation. Furthermore, the historical temples, ancient monasteries, and distinctive old houses, along with other clusters of ancient buildings, are important tourist attractions in this area, worth exploring in detail and understanding deeply. Beyond static scenic and cultural tours, the jurisdiction also offers dynamic 'LOHAS' (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) experiences. Numerous interconnected hiking and cycling trails within the area are not only ideal for leisurely walks and appreciating scenery but also popular choices for hikers and cyclists. Especially on hot summer days, walking along the tree-lined paths can completely dispel the heat. In winter, it's the perfect time for hot springs; the high-quality hot springs and well-equipped spa resorts offer a warm indulgence during the cold season. Due to its excellent geographical location, suitable climate conditions, and high-quality soil and water, this scenic area cultivates delicious and sweet agricultural specialties such as temperate fruits, high-mountain vegetables, tea leaves, and trout. The tea produced in this area is particularly renowned, with the fragrant aroma of tea wafting from north to south, encompassing Oriental Beauty Tea from Lion's Head Mountain, high-mountain tea from Lishan, and Songbailing Oolong Tea from Baguashan. Additionally, indigenous-style meals and Hakka cuisine are local delights that must be savored when visiting here. The Nanzhuang Visitor Center is the first visitor center under the Tourism Administration to receive a green building certification. It is located near Nanzhuang Old Street, at the 27km mark of Highway 124. It provides visitors with travel consultation, attraction introductions, multimedia video guides, and experiences such as trying on traditional Hakka and indigenous clothing. It is recommended to first visit here to gather travel information, listen to explanations, and then use the travel brochures to fully explore various attractions.
