The development of Sanyi wood sculpture originated in 1918 when local resident Mr. Wu Jin-bao collected deadwood, processed it into ornaments at home, and these pieces were admired by the Japanese as works of art. Wu Jin-bao subsequently collaborated with the Japanese to research mass production methods for these deadwood artworks. Initially, Sanyi wood sculptures primarily focused on religious figures and handicrafts. In recent years, however, with a growing trend towards artistic creation emphasizing personal style, a breathtaking variety of innovative sculptural works with diverse themes has continuously emerged. The Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum is Taiwan's only public museum dedicated exclusively to wood sculpture. It primarily collects and displays exquisite wood sculpture masterpieces, including indigenous ethnic wood sculptures from various countries and Taiwanese wood sculpture art.
