Shimen Reservoir

Shimen Reservoir is located in the middle reaches of the Dahan River, situated between Daxi District, Longtan District, and Fuxing District in Taoyuan City, and Guanxi Township in Hsinchu County. It got its name because the river mouth features two peaks facing each other, resembling a stone gate. The Shimen Reservoir Scenic Area offers various tourist attractions, including the Yishan Pavilion Information Center, Huancui Tower, Xizhou, Pinglin, Maple Forest, Butterfly Garden, Bishopwood Forest, and more. The lakeside trail has also been renovated and completed. Due to its complete forest landscape, this area boasts a very well-preserved natural ecology, leading to an abundance of bird species, primarily low-altitude types. Birdwatching is optimal during autumn and winter.
