Renshan Botanical Garden is situated at the northernmost end of the Central Mountain Range, at an elevation of approximately 50 to 500 meters. Covering an area of about 100 hectares, it experiences a climate typical of Taiwan's low-altitude, subtropical, northeastern monsoon rainforests. To its north, it overlooks the Lanyang Plain and the Pacific Ocean, while to its rear, it is bordered by Xinliao Mountain and the Xinliao and Jiuliao Waterfalls. Due to its convenient location not far from the city center and its excellent hiking and recreational facilities, it is a popular destination for visitors to hike and enjoy nature. To establish diverse functions for the garden, the Yilan County Government began active planning in 2001 (the 90th year of the Republic of China). The goal is to develop it into a botanical garden that integrates recreation, lifestyle, ecology, and education.
