Wulaokeng Scenic Area

Wulao Creek is located at the junction of Dongshan Township and Su'ao Township. It is formed by the confluence of two streams, east and west, and is approximately 24 kilometers long. Early pioneers believed the valley contained placer gold, and many flocked there to pan for gold, exhausting their family fortunes, only to return empty-handed. Pronounced in Taiwanese, it was called "Wulaokeng." Due to its favorable geographical environment, fresh air, and clear stream water, Ajiangcheng, located downstream of Wulaokeng, has nurtured countless graceful and captivating girls, pure and beautiful. Consequently, the saying "Wulaokeng's large rock drums, Ajiangcheng's beautiful girls" spread far and wide and has been passed down to this day. Wulao Creek Valley is renowned for its lush forests, gushing clear streams, strangely shaped rock formations, winding paths, and sweet spring water, earning it the moniker "Wulao Forest Springs" and making it one of the New "Eight Scenic Spots of Lanyang." Within the area, the grassy slopes are emerald green, and several check dams in the creek form small waterfalls, with clear turquoise currents, enhancing the tranquility and comfort. On both sides of the stream, dense forests abound, presenting a lush green vista. The natural scenery is serene and beautiful, and the ecological environment is rich, with birds and butterflies being particularly captivating. River tracing here allows for birdwatching and butterfly appreciation simultaneously, achieving multiple benefits. It is an excellent place for outdoor excursions and serves as a natural ecological classroom. The area also features a campground and cooking shelters, with excellent facilities that can accommodate five thousand people for camping activities. In recent years, the Yilan County Government has held its distinctive Green Expo here every spring. Theme pavilions based on natural environmental concepts attract countless visitors who come to experience the mysterious facets of nature and feel its vibrant atmosphere.
