Qilan Forest Recreation Area

Located in Tucheng Village, Datong Township, at the intersection of the Northern Cross-Island Highway and its Yilan Branch Line (Provincial Highway No. 7A). It is approximately 38 kilometers from Yilan City and Luodong Township, and serves as a necessary route when traveling to Taiping Mountain and Lishan. The terraced nursery primarily cultivates Japanese cedars. Within the recreation area, you'll find Chiang Kai-shek's Presidential Lodge, an ornamental plant viewing area, the Cherry, Apricot, and Peach Blossom Trail, a forest bathing trail, 14 aerobic exercise facilities, and the Little Tarzan Forest Playground. The European-style Qilan Mountain Villa and forest cabins provide comfortable lodging. When visiting, don't forget to try the locally cultivated specialty, Lion's Mane mushrooms. The Qilan Sacred Tree Garden is located at the 12-kilometer mark of the Qilan Forest Road. It is currently the only remaining area in Yilan with giant Formosan cypresses. Most of the area consists of primeval forests with towering ancient trees over a thousand years old. Fifty-one giant Formosan cypresses and Formosan Hinoki cypresses are scattered throughout. The trees are named after the era of their growth, such as the Confucius Sacred Tree and the Emperor Taizong of Tang Sacred Tree, adding both interest and educational value.
