Tamsui Golden Waterfront

The New Taipei City Government completed a landscape engineering project along a 1.5-kilometer stretch of riverbank behind Tamsui Old Street, showcasing the overall image of the riverfront space and naming it 'Golden Waterfront'. Strolling along the Tamsui River, you'll see the riverside streets and shops revitalized and looking brand new, with a variety of interesting stores lining the area. Sitting in a European-style cafe by the river, sipping coffee, and gazing at Guanyin Mountain and the river mouth on the opposite bank, the expansive view is incredibly refreshing. If you take a speed ferry to Fisherman's Wharf, you'll witness the unique blend of Eastern and Western influences along the coast, coupled with the re-emergence of the charm of Tamsui's 18 historical sites. This waterside atmosphere is sure to leave a lasting impression. Tamsui's beautiful sunsets are an unforgettable shared memory for many. As dusk gradually falls, the mountains and water interweave to form a beautifully changing riverbank scenery. At night, accompanied by the bright moon and sea breeze, admiring Tamsui's night view will deepen your attachment to the waterfront, making you want to linger indefinitely. Walking along the tree-lined path next to the Old Street brings you closer to the Tamsui Riverbank. When you're tired, you can rest in the cafe seating areas or at Guanchao Bay (Tide-Watching Bay). As you stroll near the small fishing harbor, you'll see eight century-old banyan trees, which often attract visitors to stop and fish. Tamsui's twilight scene is the most beautiful anticipation for many travelers visiting the area. As evening approaches, crowds gather at the ferry pier, the glow of the setting sun reflecting on the water, silhouetting the distant figures of returning ferry passengers. The entire scene of river and mountain is utterly captivating. Besides the pier, the riverside levee park is also an excellent spot to enjoy the twilight. Additionally, the Mangrove Nature Reserve features bicycle paths, making it an ideal place for parent-child interaction. To admire the beautiful scenery along the Tamsui River, one can also choose the 'Blue Highway' (water route). The 'Empress No. 1', currently known as the nation's largest inland river cruise ship, specifically custom-built for the Tamsui River, embarked on May 10, 2007. It can carry 320 passengers, and its spacious and comfortable interior offers five-star dining services, exclusive band performances, wedding and conference venues, and other amenities. The cruise departs from Guandu Wharf, sails to the Tamsui River mouth, circles outside the breakwater of Tamsui Second Fishing Harbor and Fisherman's Wharf before returning, and then goes via Shezi Bay back to Guandu Wharf, covering a total distance of approximately 20 kilometers. Starting from Guandu Wharf, passengers can enjoy the sunset glow at the Tamsui River mouth, Datun Mountain and Guanyin Mountain, the mangroves of Zhuwei, and Guandu's precious waterbird sanctuary along the way.
