Dabangan Forest Hot Spring Resort

Dabangan Forest Hot Spring Resort is located in the Dapu River basin in Sanxia District, New Taipei City. The resort spans 20 hectares and was formerly Taiwan's largest and first tea factory during the Japanese colonial era, boasting a history of nearly a century. Within the resort, there is a leisure villa once used by the Japanese Imperial Family, and its gardens, fish ponds, and forest trails are meticulously planned. The natural ecology is exceptionally well-preserved, safeguarding Taiwan's only remaining low-altitude primitive tropical rainforest. This forest is home to century-old, large national treasure-level buttress root plants, such as Ficus subpisocarpa and Ficus variegata. With over two centuries of tropical rainforest preservation, the forest features nearly 500 plant species, over 4,000 insect species, and more than 30 bird species. Among its wonders are the prehistoric leaf fern and the globally protected Fairy Pitta, making them spectacular sights worth visiting at the resort. Consequently, this place can truly be called a "treasure trove of primitive tropical rainforest ecology." Visitors can also enjoy up to 20,000 PPM of phytoncides, promoting physical and mental well-being. Plants in tropical rainforests develop buttress roots to firmly anchor themselves in soil frequently eroded by rainwater. These buttress roots are very precious as they grow only about 1 centimeter per year. Radial buttress roots, which can only grow on tropical rainforest slopes with a gradient of 45° or more, are particularly rare. Aside from Kenting, this site is one of the few places to possess such national treasure-level plants, and it is Northern Taiwan's only leisure park featuring a 20-hectare tropical rainforest.
