Bitan Scenic Area

Bitan was once one of Taiwan's eight great scenic spots, boasting beautiful scenery. Located near the MRT Xindian Station, it offers very convenient transportation and is a popular recreational destination for people in the Taipei metropolitan area on holidays. As the Xindian River flows through Bitan, it forms meanders, rock walls, and hills. Bitan derives its name from its wide riverbanks and water that is clear, emerald green, and as calm as a lake, making it ideal for activities such as boating, swimming, and fishing, with a truly pleasant landscape. Years ago, Sun Fo, the former president of the Examination Yuan, inscribed the two characters "Bitan" on a massive rock cliff on the west bank of the lake. On top of this giant rock, local residents built a pavilion named Biting (Emerald Pavilion), which exceptionally beautifies the western hill of the lake. The Bitan Suspension Bridge, approximately 200 meters long, was built in 1937. It spans gracefully across the waters of Bitan, connecting its two banks, much like a long rainbow arcing overhead. It has become a prominent landmark and symbol of the area. From the bridge, visitors can admire the beautiful scenery of Bitan, where reflections of mountains and water, along with scattered boats, create a poetic and picturesque tableau. This historic site is a primary tourist attraction for Xindian District.
