Wulai

Wulai is a famous mountainous township in northern Taiwan, located in a water source protection area. Most of its residents are Atayal aboriginals. At the confluence of the Nanshi River and Tonghou River, towering peaks rise on both sides and the river winds through, forming a magnificent natural landscape. It is renowned for its hot springs, scenic tram, waterfalls, and Yunxian Amusement Park. Legend has it that the word 'Wulai' originated from the Atayal indigenous language, meaning "hot spring." Consequently, the local hot springs are quite famous, featuring clear and transparent weak alkaline carbonic acid water. The renowned Wulai Waterfall, approximately 80 meters high, resembles a white silk ribbon suspended in mid-air, creating an impressive and grand spectacle. Furthermore, the tourist tram is another distinctive feature of Wulai. Originally used for transporting timber, it now serves as a means of transportation for visitors exploring the mountains. The Mountain Aboriginal Culture Village, located on the hillside opposite the waterfall, was reconstructed from the Aboriginal Folklore Museum. It showcases the culture and customs of the Atayal aboriginals, displays historical aboriginal artifacts, and its aboriginal song and dance performances are a major highlight. Visiting Wulai feels like entering a paradise or an earthly fairyland, making it an ideal destination for tourism and leisure.
