Visitor Essentials

The Taipei Fine Arts Museum officially opened on December 24, 1983 (the 72nd year of the Minguo calendar). Located in Yuanshan, northern Taipei, it covers an area of 20,442 square meters and features 11,741 square meters of flat exhibition space. As Taiwan's first modern art museum, TFAM has held high ideals and goals since its inception. Functionally, it organizes and curates contemporary art exhibitions, collects and preserves representative works of Taiwan's art development, conducts art research, promotes art education, and facilitates international exchange. The aim is to integrate the lives of citizens with the museum internally, and externally to promote Taiwan's art development so that it can keep pace with international art trends. To accommodate diverse contemporary art exhibitions, the museum's main building is designed with multiple spatial configurations, enriching the performance stage for artistic creation and providing infinite possibilities for exhibition spaces. Over half of the building's volume is subterranean, enhancing the dialogue between the museum and the park, and creating a rich spatial form through its three-dimensional structure. Square windows extend to the surrounding scenery, creating an interactive spatial environment with external mountains, rivers, elevated expressways, building complexes, and pedestrians. This design is rich in the contemporary characteristics of an international metropolis, making it a modern art museum that bridges the 20th and 21st centuries, moving from modern to contemporary. In addition to being an art and cultural institution, the museum is also a space for dialogue, leisure, and spiritual enrichment. It integrates urban recreational facilities such as themed restaurants, cafes, and art bookstores, developing towards diversification and refinement, thereby achieving the goals of art-infused living and life-infused art.
