Xingtian Temple

Xingtian Temple, also known as Enzhugong Temple, is dedicated to Guan Yu (162-219 AD), a famous general in Chinese history. He is revered as the God of War due to his unwavering integrity and loyalty. Furthermore, because of his excellent financial acumen, he is also honored as the patron god of business. The current Xingtian Temple was established in 1967. Its appearance is simple yet solemn. Upon entering the front hall, many devotees can be seen bowing and kneeling before the deities with great reverence. Walking through the courtyard to the main hall, one will notice that the altar only has fresh flowers and clear tea, without any other offerings. This is because Xingtian Temple abstains from killing, prohibiting the offering of animal sacrifices. It also actively discourages practices such as burning joss paper, performing operas to thank the gods, or offering thank-you plaques made of gold. Moreover, there is no donation box in front of the temple, and worshippers are not asked to donate incense money. This unique approach pioneered a simple and pure style within traditional religious circles. Because many people believe Xingtian Temple to be highly efficacious, a large number of individuals visit seeking divine guidance and fortune-telling. Consequently, the underground shopping arcade beneath Xingtian Temple is almost entirely filled with fortune-telling stalls, forming a unique characteristic.
