Presidential Office Building

The Presidential Office Building is located at No. 122, Section 1, Chongqing South Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City. Its main entrance faces Ketagalan Boulevard. Its front (east-facing) is on Chongqing South Road, its rear (west-facing) is on Bo'ai Road, Baoging Road is to its north, and Guiyang Street is to its south. During the period of Japanese rule in Taiwan, it was decided between 1906 and 1907 to construct the Governor-General's Office Building (which is now the Presidential Office Building). Towards the end of World War II, this building was severely damaged by bombing. It was rebuilt and completed in the 35th year of the Republic of China (1946). At that time, to celebrate President Chiang Kai-shek's 60th birthday, it was renamed "Jieshou Hall." After the central government relocated to Taiwan, this building became the Presidential Office and has been used as such ever since. The majestic and towering Presidential Office Building, accentuated by its spacious plaza, appears even more dignified and grand. This building was the seat of the "Governor-General's Office" during the Japanese colonial period. Since its completion in 1919, it has continuously served as the highest center of political power in Taiwan. This five-story Late Renaissance style mansion, with a central 12-story tower rising to a height of 60 meters, stood majestically as the largest construction project in Taiwan at the time. If major national holidays and celebrations occur, such as New Year's Day or October 10th (National Day), the area around the Presidential Office Building is adorned with colorful decorations and brilliant lights, creating an extremely splendid scene.
