National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

The designer of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is Yang Cho-cheng, who also designed the Grand Hotel. The Memorial Hall's original site was the Army Headquarters, which was then the largest military zone in Taipei City. The blue and white colors used in the Memorial Hall are the main colors of the national flag, and the decoration on its dome features the 'Blue Sky with a White Sun' emblem with twelve rays. As democracy has evolved and ideas have become more open, the plaza in front of the Memorial Hall has become a gathering place for democratic movements. On either side of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall are the National Concert Hall and the National Theater. The Theater is a venue for performances such as drama and dance, frequently hosting large-scale events including Peking Opera, plays, and children's programs. The Concert Hall is Taiwan's premier music performance space, regularly hosting major musical events such as chamber music and symphony orchestras. The plaza in front of the two halls also occasionally hosts drama and music events, attracting numerous visitors. With white walls and blue tiles, it stands 70 meters tall in the center of the Memorial Park, appearing magnificent from any angle. International tourists visiting Taiwan, regardless of their itinerary, invariably come here for a visit. Beneath the Memorial Hall are displays and exhibitions, as well as souvenir sales.
