Sangang Iron Works Cultural Museum

In the 1950s, the fishing industry in Nanfang'ao Fishing Port flourished. The demand for fishing boats led to the manufacture of machinery, and iron works producing and repairing fishing boat equipment were subsequently established. Sangang Iron Works was founded in 1962, and is one of the oldest iron works in the Nanfang'ao area that repaired fishing boats, having witnessed Nanfang'ao's most prosperous years. It was initially founded by three masters, each specialized in their own field and also close friends. They aspired to form a formidable team, which led to the name 'Sangang Iron Works'. Later, due to changing times and advancements in industrial technology, the iron works decided to cease operations in 2004. However, thanks to the dedicated efforts of his descendant, Liao Da-ching, to preserve cultural heritage, the 'Sangang Iron Works Cultural Museum' was established at the original site. The first and second floors were renovated into a 1950s-era factory cultural museum, while the third floor serves as a local small-scale cultural hall with exhibits changing seasonally. The overall content and format are considered quite rare in Taiwan. This historical space, reminiscent of the 1950s, is filled with evocative artifacts and touching stories. Through explanations and guided tours, visitors can gain a wealth of knowledge about fishing ports and a sense of nostalgia for the past, making it one of the most worthwhile attractions to visit in the Su'ao area!
