National Traditional Arts Center

The National Traditional Arts Center, located by the Dongshan River, opened in 2002. Covering an area of 24 hectares, it faces the Dongshan River Water Park across the river, resembling twin cities. Its main mission is to coordinate, plan, and promote the investigation, preservation, transmission, and promotion of traditional arts, enabling traditional arts to be revitalized, developed, and innovated. The park is open to the public and has become an important tourist attraction in Yilan County since its establishment. The hardware architecture and landscape spatial planning combine traditional and modern elements, built to meet the needs of traditional opera, music, dance, crafts, and folk acrobatics, comprising twenty-one buildings and landscape zones. The park is mainly divided into areas such as the entrance and parking lot, administrative center, accommodation, performance halls, craft workshops, and industrial landscape zones. The park's exhibition system is open for paid admission and is divided into two main categories: dynamic and static. Dynamic exhibitions primarily take place in the park's street settlement areas, waterside open-air stages, and pastoral landscape zones, featuring various scheduled arts and crafts performances. Static exhibitions focus on displays of traditional crafts and fine arts in the exhibition hall, and music and opera-related artifacts in the drama museum's artifact display room. Additionally, it incorporates many unique shops selling local specialties, handicrafts, and more. The expansive park offers diverse functions: contemplation, water play, bird watching, fishing, and enjoying the beauty of art. The reconstructed traditional buildings, the Zheng Family Ancestral Temple and Huang Ju-ren's Former Residence, are considered the treasures of the park. An eco-friendly, non-polluting electric boat service operates between the park and the Dongshan River Water Park. The one-way trip takes 15 minutes and costs NT$75.
