Su'ao Port is located at the exit of the Lanyang Tunnel. Formerly known as Donggang (East Port), it is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the Pacific Ocean to the east. Flanked by Nanfang'ao and Beifang'ao, it is a strategically important and excellent natural harbor. Since ancient times, it has been one of the commercial ports driving Lanyang's prosperity. Later, it was transformed into an international trading port, becoming an important hub for imports and exports, and a ten-year construction marvel created by reclaiming land from the sea. Before visiting Su'ao Port, you should know about a legendary sight here: "Su'ao Shèn Shì" (Mirage City of Su'ao), one of the "Eight Sights of Lanyang." Due to the wide port surface, when the sea is calm during spring and summer, reflections of ships and market stalls in the water appear in the sky, transforming into illusory pavilions, like a celestial realm. And when the sun sets, overlooking the entire port area from a high vantage point, the dimming night reflects countless fishing lights, creating another famous beautiful scene in Su'ao. If you wish to fully appreciate these beautiful port and harbor views, there are several excellent viewpoints: from the Suhua Highway or Mount Paotai (Fortress Mountain), you can see the long capes on the north and south sides of Su'ao Port, resembling a crab's two large claws. There is also Qixingling (Seven Star Ridge) next to the port; follow the trail upwards to the highest point. To the south, you can overlook the magnificent harbor, while to the north, you can gaze at Turtle Island in the distance and get a closer look at the beautiful scenery of the Lanyang Plain. The view is expansive and the scenery delightful. Besides sightseeing, large fish are often seen in the waters near the breakwater, attracting many anglers to try their luck. However, please be sure to assess your own condition and the day's weather and sea conditions, and pay attention to fishing safety!
