Laolai Geological Area

A holy land for shore fishing, attracting many masters. Laolai is the most developed area of sea erosion platforms along the Northeast Coast. Benefiting from the warm Pacific current, it provides an ideal environment for algae and plankton to thrive, thus fostering a rich and diverse marine ecosystem. Its expansive sea erosion platforms, monocline ridges, and gravel beaches have also made it a cherished spot for anglers to sharpen their skills and enjoy the sport. Skilled fishermen can be seen gathered here from dawn till dusk, and large-scale shore fishing competitions have historically chosen Laolai as their venue. Laolai's Geological Feast: The Devil's Washboard and the Legend of Fire Dragon Rock Beyond being a renowned shore fishing destination, Laolai also boasts an array of peculiar rock formations and striking landforms that never fail to amaze. A series of strange black rocks, arranged in parallel lines, stretch across the Laolai area. Their vast and serene linear patterns, combined with the powerful, surging waves, have earned them the evocative name 'The Devil's Washboard.' Additionally, the largest 'Fire Dragon Rock' in Taiwan stands majestically on a flat sedimentary rock platform, its shape resembling the spine of a dragon diving into the sea. These remarkable geological features are all fascinating remnants of tectonic plate movements. From here, visitors can also get a close-up view of magnificent landscapes such as extensive sea erosion gullies and volcanic dikes, and enjoy the breathtaking sea views with Guishan Island (Turtle Island) visible in the distance. The sea erosion platform area on the north side is a particular favorite among photographers. Facing east, it offers an exceptional spot for capturing sunrise shots.
