The Easternmost Point of Taiwan – Sanpaojiao The coastline is covered with massive rocks, and the spectacular sight of waves crashing against the cape, combined with a clear blue sky, created a unique and beautiful scenery that amazed passing Spanish ships, giving it an exotic old name – "Santiago." After phonetic transcription in Hokkien, we now call this place "Sanpaojiao." Located at the easternmost tip of Taiwan, it is most famous for being where the island's first sunrise can be witnessed. Sanpaojiao Lighthouse – The Eye of Taiwan Standing proudly on the easternmost cape, facing the Pacific Ocean, it flashes white and red lights twice every 28 seconds, like a maiden in a white dress winking at the beautiful ocean. Sanpaojiao Lighthouse is also known as "The Eye of Taiwan," guiding direction with its warm light at night, illuminating the way home for seafarers. In addition to being a guide at sea, it is also a popular tourist attraction, with its pure white lighthouse building, soccer-ball-shaped navigation radar, Greek-style pavilion, and heart-shaped art installations. Next to the lighthouse is a small arched chapel, converted from a kerosene storage warehouse, featuring retro wooden doors and colorful stained-glass windows, creating a sweet and romantic atmosphere everywhere. It attracts many couples for romantic dates, and numerous newlyweds can be seen taking wedding photos here, creating beautiful memories. Its commanding position and expansive views make it a sacred spot for sunrise enthusiasts and photographers. Many people might take countless photos just in the lighthouse area. In fact, if you continue further down, there's a hidden observation deck where you can enjoy the beautiful spray of waves crashing against the rocks, and embrace the stunning scenery where mountains meet the sea and the sky merges with the ocean. Looking back, you can see the winding path, the white lighthouse, and the soccer-ball-shaped radar station appearing simultaneously in the frame—all among the most beautiful sights at Sanpaojiao.
