Longdong Bay Cape Trail

Walking along the trail carved into cliffs and precipices, with a vast blue ocean on one side and verdant mountains on the other, a sense of awe spontaneously arises, and one can't help but marvel at this picturesque and poetic beauty. The name 'Longdong' (Dragon Cave/Hole) originates from the coastal rocks here, which curve like a giant dragon coiling. The Bay Cape Trail connects two major capes of the Northeast Coast, linking the 6-million-year history of Bitou Cape with the 35-million-year history of Longdong Cape – two tales from different times and spaces. You will feel reverence for nature and marvel at the splendor of this interwoven tapestry of time and space. The trailhead begins at Xilingyan Temple. A walk of just a few minutes leads to an observation deck, where you can gaze at the sea, listen to the waves, and admire unique rock formations. From this elevated vantage point, you can clearly take in the magnificent seascape and rugged cliffs. You might even spot people fully geared up and striving to climb the rock face by the shore – that's the famous Longdong climbing area, which attracts challenge-loving experts from both Taiwan and abroad. In just 2-3 hours, a round trip here feels like traversing millennia. Besides experiencing the passage of time and the power of geological movements, hiking uphill also brings physical and mental comfort. It connects all the way to Longdong Bay Ocean Park. A round trip from Longdong Southern Entrance Ocean Park to Hemei Elementary School takes about 1.5 hours; a round trip to Longdong Bay Park takes about 3 hours. The path is flat and easy to walk. Visitors can plan their route according to the weather and their physical condition.
