The Cailiao River Basin boasts an unparalleled fossil treasure trove, which has garnered attention since 1931. While conducting geological surveys in Tainan, Professor Hayasaka Ichiro, a geology professor at Taihoku Imperial University, collected numerous deer antler fossils in the Cailiao River Basin. He also enlisted the help of local Mr. Chen Chun-mu (later known as "Grandpa Fossil") to collect many precious fossils of ancient elephants, rhinoceroses, water buffalo, and other animals. This established the Cailiao River as a significant hub for paleontological research in Taiwan. Later, the Cailiao Fossil Museum was established. After extensive renovation and expansion, it has now become the Tainan Zuozhen Fossil Park that everyone sees today.
