Located in Xincuozi, Kunjang Village, Beimen District, this is the former residence of the self-taught painter Hong Tong, known as the 'Picasso of the East'. Illiterate and self-taught, he passionately dedicated himself to painting at the age of fifty. His style is renowned for its mystical calligraphic paintings, rich colors, and a touch of the ethereal. His early experiences as a spirit medium, folk beliefs, and daily life profoundly influenced his artistic spirit, imbuing his painting process with a hypnotic, religious quality. His artworks are vibrant, fantastical, and rich with imagery of religious faith. Therefore, in addition to hieroglyph-like images, his paintings also evoke a familiarity with folk talismans. His abstract and childlike style, along with his bold and vibrant use of color, attracted international attention. President Chiang Ching-kuo also personally visited him at the time.
