Waisanding Sandbar Beach

Waisanding Sandbar is located about 10 kilometers off the coast of Yunlin and Chiayi. Its current area is approximately 1,000 hectares. It is named for its umbrella-like shape and is Taiwan's largest sandbar. Influenced by waves, coastal currents, and the northeast monsoon, Waisanding Sandbar drifts 60 to 70 meters southwestward annually, earning it the moniker 'moving national land.' It is primarily formed by the vast amounts of silt and sand carried by the Zhuoshui River as it flows into the sea. Thanks to the barrier provided by Waisanding Sandbar, the Dongshi Lagoon, located between Waisanding Sandbar and Chiayi County, has become a calm and expansive body of water, which in turn has allowed oyster farming to flourish.
