Sanliaowan Donglong Temple

Donglong Temple was founded by the early settlers of Sanliaowan who came to Taiwan with Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong) to reclaim land. To ensure a safe sea journey, they specially invited the statue of Marshal Li (Li Fu Qiansui) for protection. Later, in gratitude for the immense divine power of Marshal Li, the people first built a thatched hut and then a public communal hall for worship. Donglong Temple is designed in a traditional Fujianese architectural style. The main deities enshrined inside include the Marshals Li, Wen, Wu, and Chi (Li, Wen, Wu, Chi Fu Qiansui) and Baosheng Dadi (the Great Emperor of Longevity and Protection). The temple also permanently enshrines two royal boats (Wangchuan), one made of wood and one of bronze, which were built around 1976. The bronze royal boat is the only ancient Quanzhou-style sailboat in Taiwan. Its exquisite carvings of sailors and boat cabins, featuring lifelike figures, make it a piece of significant folk art.
