Qigu Lagoon

The 'Little Inland Sea' (內海仔) that Qigu fishermen refer to is the Qigu Lagoon. Its current landscape was shaped by four changes in the course of the Zengwun River, making it Taiwan's largest lagoon. To the east, Qigu Lagoon borders the Qigu Salt Fields; to the west is Wangzailiao Sandbar; to the south is the northern embankment of the Haipu fish farms; and to the north, it extends to the southwest channel of Qingshan Port. With a total area of approximately 1600 hectares, it features four sandbars from north to south: Qingshan Port Sandbar, Wangzailiao Sandbar, Dingtou'e Sandbar, and Xinfu Lun Sandbar. Its ecological resources are exceptionally rich, with over thirty species of crabs alone and more than two hundred species of fish, shrimp, and shellfish. It serves as a vital source of livelihood for local residents.
