Blackfoot disease is an endemic peripheral vascular disease of the lower extremities prevalent in the southwestern coastal areas of Taiwan. It is believed that the disease is most likely caused by chronic arsenic poisoning, which results from residents of coastal townships drinking deep well water containing excessive arsenic, and can even be accompanied by complications such as liver, kidney, and bladder cancers.
