Visitor Essentials
Baishui Lake is one of the well-known salt fields in Dongshi Township. Although named 'lake', there is no freshwater lake in the area. The name Baishui Lake comes from the geographical features of the old salt pan. Originally, the 'Zhangxing Company' salt pan, operated jointly by Japanese and Tainan people, once built a sea dike in this area. However, after years of construction, the sea dike was never completed. With frequent typhoons, the outer bank of the sea dike would collapse and seawater would pour in, creating white waves across the salt fields. This is how 'Baishui Lake' got its name. Currently, following Taiwan Salt's implementation of a mechanized drying policy in 1983, it has transformed into a quiet, traditional community.
