Dawulun Battery

The Dawulun Battery, located near Lover's Lake Park atop Dawulun Mountain, is a strategic high point on the route from Tamsui, via Jinshan, into Keelung. It offers commanding views of the Maring River and the sea near Dawulun Bay, serving a dual role for both land and sea defense, and is recognized as one of the Keelung Fortress Batteries. Apart from its entrance passage, the Dawulun Battery primarily comprises three sections: the barracks area, the Dawulun cannon platform, and the outer rampart. The outer rampart is the most distinctive structure of the Dawulun Battery. Made up of a rampart walk and a parapet wall, it encircles the entire battery, indicating that the Dawulun Battery was jointly garrisoned by both artillery and infantry, designed to defend against enemies attacking from the sea and to prevent land-based assaults. From atop the low wall, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Keelung Islet, the Waimushan Fishing Village, and the picturesque scenery of the North Coast. It is often chosen by wedding photography companies as a shooting location, adding to its romantic allure. Moreover, the Dawulun Battery parking lot is one of the few easily accessible stargazing spots not far from the city. With relatively low light pollution and its elevated location, on clear nights, it offers a breathtaking view of the starry sky, making it a secret sanctuary for many stargazers and photography enthusiasts.
