Jinbaoli Old Street

Jinbaoli Old Street, commonly known as Jinshan Old Street, is always bustling with people and tourists on holidays. Businesses thrive, with various local snacks like 'burou' (fried pork slices) and crispy fried oysters, as well as Jinshan specialties such as taro cakes and roasted sweet potatoes, being particularly famous. At the entrance of Guang'an Temple in the heart of the old street, visitors can find the most popular duck meat stall, and the unique self-serve dish-carrying culture adds to the local charm. Jinshan Old Street is the only remaining Qing Dynasty commercial street on the North Coast. During the Qing Dynasty, its prosperity rivaled that of a major commercial city, serving as a bustling hub for trade. A stroll through the street reveals many traces of its rich history. Near Cihu Temple, a few preserved old houses, known as 'street houses,' showcase traditional long, terraced shop-houses with Minnan-style architecture and Western facades, alongside narrow, deep arcade buildings. A nearby traditional Chinese medicine shop, with its aged furniture and displayed medicine jars, still echoes the Qing Dynasty era. While the height of its prosperity is now a memory, careful preservation planning has led to the installation of specially designed drain covers in the pedestrian tourist area, embossed with distinctive Jinbaoli Old Street features. These creative touches aim to delight visitors, allowing them to revisit its past splendor and appreciate the street's enduring traditional charm.
