The Candlestick Twin Islets, renowned as one of the "Eight Scenic Wonders of Jinshan," stand approximately 60 meters tall. They were originally the tip of the Huanggang Peninsula. In earlier times, land uplift combined with continuous strong erosion by seawater separated them from the peninsula. Over time, the uplifted rocks were eroded by waves, and the sea caves below gradually eroded through to form a headland, creating a sea arch similar to Shimen (Stone Arch). Later, the top of the sea arch collapsed, forming prominent reefs, which are sea stack formations. The bases of these stacks are connected, but above the water, they diverge into two islets, resembling a pair of candlesticks, hence their name. A poignant and moving love story legend is associated with the Candlestick Twin Islets. It is said that a woman's husband went missing after leaving home on a boat. She firmly believed he would return one day, so she waited by the shore every day. However, her husband never returned, and she eventually transformed into a stone, continuing her eternal wait. When her husband finally returned, he found his wife had become a stone. He spent his days weeping beside the giant rock, and eventually, he too transformed into a stone to accompany her. Furthermore, Zhongzheng Pavilion at the end of the Shitoushan Park trail is the best spot to photograph the Candlestick Twin Islets and enjoy the seascape. Whether viewed from afar or above, the vast panorama reveals the rich and stunning topographic scenery of the Jinshan coast.
