Fuguei Cape Recreation Area is located in Shimen District. The park features unique geological landscapes such as the famous Ventifacts Scenic Area, a coastal trail, Laomei Green Stone Troughs, and sand dunes. It also includes the park's landmark, Fuguei Cape Lighthouse, an octagonal lighthouse with alternating black and white parallel stripes, which is also the northernmost lighthouse on Taiwan proper. As you walk along the coastal trail into the wind, you can not only admire the ventifacts along the way but also witness the Laomei Bay terrain and sand dunes formed by the Shimen reef coast, as well as wind-sculpted trees and resilient beach plants anchoring the sand dunes. Visiting between April and May each year, you can enjoy Taiwan's native lilies along the way. Their leaves are linear-lanceolate and alternate, with flowers blooming at the top. The size and number of flowers on each plant vary, depending entirely on the condition of the bulb. Their most distinctive feature is six purplish-red or reddish-brown stripes on the outer side of the petals. In addition to this, you can also admire the unique green stone troughs. From May to August, the Gaillardia (blanket flower) is in full bloom. Such a magnificent blend of mountain and sea scenery is sure to leave you in awe!
