Located in the middle reaches of Dakeng Creek, the Hengshan Terraces are Sanzhi's most famous terraced landscape. Following the Sanzhi downtown road towards Hengshan, a vast rural landscape will come into view. Hengshan was formerly known as Hengshankan, a hilly area with significant elevation changes. In early times, Sanzhi was backed by mountains and faced the sea, with limited plains. To gain more arable land, early settlers developed terraced fields layer by layer, following the natural terrain. The terraces, winding along the mountain contours, form a layered terraced landscape. With roads and rivers interlacing through them, they create a beautiful, geometric-like scenery, offering different views from every angle. Hengshan is also home to Sanzhi's 'Beauty's Leg' water bamboo (jiao bai sun). The crisp, fragrant water bamboo has become a famous delicacy in Sanzhi. The good mountains, clear waters, and fertile soil nurture delicious, sweet, and crunchy water bamboo, whose pure white and smooth appearance has earned it the nickname 'Sanzhi Beauty's Leg'. Under the autumn breeze, the green, wave-like water bamboo fields, coupled with water wheels actively turning with the flow of water, exude a serene and leisurely rural charm. On a holiday, why not take a 'Sanzhi Beauty's Leg' tour, and enjoy the leisurely time of harvesting water bamboo and savoring specialty water bamboo dishes.
