Irrigation Canal Benefactor's Shrine

The Irrigation Canal Benefactor's Shrine is located in Liugui District, on Provincial Highway 27A at the 13K mark. In the third year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1853), Huang Xianren, originally from Haifeng County, Guangdong, moved to and settled in Xinwei Village. He discovered that residents in the area from Xinwei to Erpo were cultivating dry fields, indicating a lack of irrigation water. Therefore, after observing the local topography, Huang Xianren rode an ox to Erpo and personally used tools to dig an irrigation canal, intending to divert water from the Laonong River to the area. With the collective assistance of the villagers, the irrigation canal was finally completed. Abundant river water has since irrigated over two hundred jia of farmland in the Xinwei area, leading to increased food production.
