Wanshan Tribe

Wanshan Tribe is located on Provincial Highway 132 in Maolin District. After passing the Maolin District Office for about 7 kilometers, you will reach the entrance to Wanshan Tribe. During the Japanese colonial period, Wanshan Village was known as "Mandaulan" (萬斗籠社). The original settlement was located at the foot of Wantoulan Mountain, at an altitude of 1475 meters. It was once the most remote tribe in Maolin District, and the tribal people called it "Oupunphuo" (歐布諾伙). Old Wanshan still preserves a complete settlement of slate houses and holds the mysterious Wanshan Rock Carvings group, "The Mysterious Love Story of Gupacage." Due to treacherous roads, the entire village collectively relocated to its current settlement in 1956 (the 45th year of the Republic of China).
