Sacred Heart of Jesus Church

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is located on Provincial Highway 24 in Wutai Township. Established in 1959, it is also known as Shenshan Catholic Church because it is situated in the Shenshan aboriginal village. The church is built with local slate. Its most distinctive feature inside is the human-shaped seats carved by local tribespeople, all facing to the right, the direction of the sunrise, symbolizing the rising sun in the east and the meaning of hope.
