Visitor Essentials

The Chalin Mountain Trail is 720 meters long. It is said that early settlers discovered the entire mountain covered with 'shi tea' (native wild tea) trees, hence it was named 'Chalin Mountain'. It is now renamed 'Xiding Mountain'. Chalin Mountain, together with Er-Yanping Mountain, is also known as 'Gongtian Great Mountain'. Along the Chalin Mountain Trail, you can closely view the beautiful mountain scenery of Er-Yanping Mountain and the Central Mountain Range, as well as the lifelike Elephant Mountain, a landmark of Xiding, directly before your eyes. Surrounded by lush green tea plantations and verdant bamboo groves, the expansive views also allow you to overlook the Chianan Plain. Xiding is shrouded in mist and clouds year-round, with ever-changing cloud waterfalls and pleasant weather. Its agricultural products are of excellent quality. After residents successively introduced tea varieties such as 'Qingxin Oolong' and 'Jinxuan', the tea's mellow and sweet flavor has made it one of Alishan's important tea-producing areas. In recent years, residents have introduced sweet persimmon trees, producing vibrant orange-red and delicious fruits. Xiding's unique natural environment also makes it the largest butterfly orchid forcing area in the nation.
