The Tree Spirit Tower is located in Alishan National Forest Recreation Area. It is an approximately 20-meter-high stone tower, built in 1935 by the Japanese government. Its purpose was to console the spirits of 77 workers (including Taiwanese and Japanese technicians) who died during logging operations, and also to comfort the souls of 100,000 felled trees.
