Zhushan (Station and its Surrounding Area)

Due to its prominent terrain and expansive views, every sunrise casts countless rays of light across the land, complemented by the sea of clouds formed in the valleys, creating a magnificent spectacle. Numerous visitors travel great distances just to witness this breathtaking scene of emerging light. As early as the Japanese colonial period, Zhushan was already a significant site for viewing the sunrise, though at that time, access to Zhushan or Duigaoyue was only possible via hiking trails. In 1971, the Forestry Bureau constructed the Zhushan Forest Road, replacing the original narrow paths. However, due to issues like competition between pedestrians and vehicles and exhaust pollution, a separate railway was built in May 1984, and vehicle access was subsequently restricted. Because the Zhushan Line railway only operates in the early morning, quickly descending after sunrise, it holds the distinction of being Taiwan's highest railway station and also the earliest operating station in the entire country!
