Century-old Stone Terraced Fields

The century-old stone terraced fields are located in the Guanghua (Dingbenzi) area of Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County, serving as a testament to the diligent reclamation efforts of the early settlers of Dingbenzi. These terraces were constructed by early residents for farming on slopes, with the outer walls and edges of each field meticulously built piece by piece from natural stones. Their purpose was to consolidate the soil, prevent erosion, and provide stable arable land. After a century of weathering and erosion, these stone terraces remain robust, showcasing the wisdom and perseverance of the early settlers. Currently, these fields are still utilized by local villagers for cultivating various crops.
