Changhua Confucius Temple

The Changhua Confucius Temple was founded in 1726 during the Qing Yongzheng era. Its current layout is the result of a major renovation during the Daoguang era, with the architectural carvings of the main hall, 'Dacheng Hall' (Hall of Great Completion), being the most exquisite. Inside the hall, there are memorial tablets for ancient sages and worthies. In the center, there is a shrine dedicated to Confucius, above which hang two plaques: 'Dao Guan Gu Jin' (The Way Pervades Past and Present) and 'Yu Tian Di Can' (In Union with Heaven and Earth). The former was inscribed and bestowed by Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo; the latter was personally bestowed by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty. It stands as an important symbol of cultural and educational development in Central Taiwan.
